First and foremost, I would like to wish all of you a Happy Thanksgiving. Be sure to take this opportunity to give thanks for the things you have, as you should be doing daily. There are a lot of things that others may have that you dont, but there sure are things that you have that others dont. I have a lot to be thankful for, but here are ten things in hip-hop that I am thankful for...
10. I'm thankful for the fact that I never EVER called Gucci Mane my favorite rapper. Jail life, collab albums with V-Nasty, ice cream tattoos...I feel smart for never listening to your music.
9. I'm thankful that the Lil' B ship has sunk, and those who were fans have gone down with it. You all weren't really serious when you cosigned this guy, were you?
8. I'm thankful for Jeezy making Rick Ross eat his words by putting his album a week after his. Health problems my ass, Ross' album didn't have a chance on December 13th. See you in 2012, Ricky.
7. I'm thankful for Mac Miler showing the world that indie artists are back. Most records sold on an independent label since Death Row? Applaud that man!
6. I'm thankful for Drake in general. Because without him, the box woulda been nonexistent for a lot of you. "Know that I dont make music for niggas that dont get pussy, so those are the niggas I count on to diss me or overlook me".
Well stated, Aubrey.
5. I'm thankful that Tyler, The Creator won the VMA's Best New Artist over Wiz Khalifa and Big Sean. Once again, independent artists for the win. Thats what happens when you start making weak music.
4. I'm truly thankful for that Shady 2.0 Cypher session, for many reasons. That reminded a lot of you of what a hip-hop verse should sound like.
3. I'm thankful for Curren$y and the Alchemist deciding to drop that Covert Coup project for free. That was almost as classic as How Fly. They could have easily made some bread off of that...
2. I'm actually thankful that Busta Rhymes is still relevant. I thought this guy's run would've been up by now, but it's nice to see veterans like him still getting love.
1. I'm thankful that Jay-Z chose not to respond to Wayne's diss on "It's Good". When youre talking about publicly kidnapping someones significant other when everybody knows you really wouldnt, I dont really count that as a TKO. Say something about a nigga's mother, so he knows it's real. Say something personal, not mythical.
There you have it kids, those are ten things that I'm thankful for in 2011, RTF style. To be honest, I'm thankful for all of our readers, visitors and supporters. You guys (and gals) are the best. Feel free to leave what youre thankful for in the comments section and we might tweet it. Have a blessed Thanksgiving people!
