It's been a busy couple of weeks for me, so I am happy to return "A Case Of The Mondays" after my mini-hiatus. But hey, I'm sure many of you forgot about the weekly series 13 days ago when I dropped the last one. Whatever, back on some new shit.
Now as we all know, RespectThisFresh.com is typically a platform for new music, videos, clothing and all other sorts of freshness. But this week, I'm gonna start off the series with a more sensitive subject; politics. I'm only doing this now because talking about this on "A Case Of The Mondays" would be the only way you all would actually read and grasp this situation.
Now this whole Occupy Wall Street situation has been going on for some weeks now and a lot of you guys are acting oblivious to the entire thing. I haven't had ONE conversation with anybody about this ordeal, simply because they don't know what is going on. Now I'm not gonna sit here and say that I know every tidbit of information about it, but it's vital that the market which this website is directed towards understand how this impacts our generation.
It's getting to the point now where financial assistance, medicaid, and other programs are rare to achieve. Now I'm not sure if you all know the same kinda people I know, but people who continue to rely on these services are setting themselves up for failure in a few years because these programs are going to be cut sooner than you think. The ones who are ahead of our generation (and I'm speaking 25 and younger) are struggling to make it with college degrees, but the effects of the recession has only made it to the point where that's not enough. That has also drawn a huge separation between social classes; the upper class and the working class. But the upper class has turned into CEO's, politicians, entertainers and those with Graduate degrees. The ratio between those and people who didn't take the same route heavily outweighs the middle class...which is now just the working class.
It's either you're broke, or you're rich in this country these days; that is something that my generation needs to understand. That whole "just to get by" mentality can't fly anymore. Not many people are taking the time to educate themselves about these current issues, and that is what is going to set them up for failure during these times that the government is attempting to restructure this whole financial system. So those out here depending on government assistance to get them through life need to find themselves a Plan B, and soon.
I don't wanna get to deep into this because like I said, I don't even know EVERYTHING about this. However, this whole debate could go both ways (feel free to comment or tweet me @WhatUpBP), but I'm speaking to those in my generation who (I hope) are going to school or making a good living at an early age. I'm not saying that if you're not a CEO, doctor or actor, you're gonna be f*cked. There is nothing to worry about as long as we're on a productive path and try not to mimic what some of those ahead of us did by relying on the financial assistance to get by. The whole system will bounce back, it's just up to us to set the bar for the forthcoming generations.
The country is not "coming to an end", so y'all can chill on that part. Lol. But.....
Let's get to some shit talking now.
Worst Songs of 2011
If you were tuned into RTF this past week, I'm sure you witnessed a nice amount of quality music that dropped. Let's run through the highlights just in case you guys missed em. Starting from Monday...
- 50 Cent - 50's My Favorite
- Pac Div - The Greatness (Prod. By No I.D.)
- Jay Electronica ft. Mobb Deep - Call Of Duty (Modern Warfare)
- Nas ft. Rick Ross - It's A Tower Heist
- Slaughterhouse - The Illest
- Drake ft. Nicki Minaj - Make Me Proud
- Danny Brown x Black Milk - Zap
- Kidz In The Hall ft. David Banner & Bun B - Pour It Up
- Wale ft. Kid CuDi - Focused
- Jay-Z x Kanye West ft. T.I. - N*ggas In Paris (Remix)
- Mobb Deep - Street Lights (Prod. By J.U.S.T.I.C.E. League)
And Mac Miller dropped a decent little mixtape. Not a bad week for music, eh?
I'm still not sure about the year overall, but it sure as hell has been better from recent years. But that's my opinion; I'm sure I have different ears.
I can't complain with what hip-hop was produced out of 2011. We've had some dope albums, great artists come out of the scene, solid underground acts and more. But after chopping it up with my followers about the worst song of 2011, I decided to compile a list.
The songs that I am about to list are songs that I HATE and if your favorite songs happen to be included, I don't feel bad.
10. Tyler The Creator ft. Jasper & Taco - B*tch Suck D*ck
Tyler's my guy, but this shit was stupid as hell to put on an album that a lot of people were anticipating from him. Before he dropped Goblin, everybody was on dude's nuts and were expecting a masterpiece after a few notable cosigns and a sick (figurative and literal) video. Shit, I was even expecting the album to go in because Bastard was dope to me. But during the first time through it, I'm sure I skipped each track about a third of the way through them. I remember hearing this beat in the beginning and thinking to myself, "Hey, we might have something here." Come to find out, the hypest beat on the album turned out to be one of the weakest songs of the year. I understand that this is Tyler we're talking, but this was just completely stupid. Then he had the nerve to make a video for it.
9. YC ft. CyHi Da Prynce, Young Jeezy, Bun B, B.o.B, Big Sean, Twista, Cory Mo, Cory Gunz, Ace Hood, Nelly, Trae Tha Truth, Waka Flocka, Wale, Wiz Khalifa & Yo Gotti - Racks On Racks (Remix)
This song was originally a fail when it first came out with YC alone. I couldn't fuck with it, not one bit. But some of you, I questioned your hearing ability along with our friendship with your approval. But seeing an official remix that featured some of my favorite artists in the game made me question the rap game alone. I could understand if everybody did a separate freestyle on their own spare time, but there's NO reason for all of this to be combined into an OFFICIAL remix. Shame on some you rappers for participating in this mess, and shame on some of you niggas for feeding this song to your ears. This is not the kind of song where you determine "who went the hardest".
8. Tyga ft. Chris Richardson - Far Away
Of course Tyga was gonna make this list. You think this nigga is actually good? His voice sounds like a distant chainsaw and he's just all around weak as hell. I don't even know what this song was from, or even if it was on an album. And it's not even the chorus that I hate on this track. It's this weasel looking ass nigga. I could have listened to anybody else over this with Chris Richardson still on the hook over Tyga's radio struggling bars. Don't think I'm hating on him by any means though...I just find this one to be one of the most annoying songs out. But don't be too mad at me Tyga dicksuckers; it's only number 8 on the list. There's plenty worse...
7. Nicki Minaj - Superbass
I'm going to be a real nigga about this. I can't tell you how many times I've caught myself randomly hearing this song in my head. And I'm positive that I've never attempted to listen to it. I mean if I just happened to be listening to the radio and it comes on, my fingers automatically take control of the 'seek' button. This not only is might be the worst song of the year, but it is also the most unavoidable. Malls, boutiques, MTV Jams, commercials...this followed me everywhere I went and I couldn't do shit about it. And it was just too easy to get stuck in my head. If it wasn't for the fact that this song might have been so unavoidable, I probably would have not even placed it on this list. But when I think of worst songs from the year, I can't help but come up with this one within the first five seconds of thinking about it. Sorry Barbies.
6. Lil' Wayne - How To Love
What do you know, three Young Money songs in a row? If I didn't know any better, I'd assume that I hate them. Well, you're half right...I hate 50% of YM. But not as much as I hate this song. I really don't even have to express my hate for this song because I'm sure a fair amount of you have the same opinion as me. And I'm also tired of talking about YM artists, so next...
5. Snoop Dogg x Wiz Khalifa - Young, Wild & Free
Now many of you probably didn't hear this one, but what Wiz song has replay value nowadays? Definitely not this one. This song made was directed towards middle school students. This instrumental could have been an alternate themes song to "Rugrats". I couldn't help but assume that those Kidz Bop kids were the ones singing the hook. Shit was garbage, and so are these two as a duo. No disrespect to Snoop. Mad disrespect to Wiz though.
4. Kreayshawn - Rich Whores
Okay, the whole "Gucci Gucci" shit was cute. I rocked to the beat for a good couple of weeks, but it died quickly. We knew rap wasn't for her when we heard the song, but we played along with it because it was a cool ass, funny song. And although I'd still smash hit her cute gay ass, rapping is something she should try and stay away from. She should definitely stick with that directing shit, because I respect her fresh. However, songs like "Rich Whores" made me discover a whole new genre of white hoes. And that's Kreayshawn herself. I've seen too many of you walking around lately and you're starting to create a whole new brand of bitches.
3. Tyga x Chris Brown - Snapback's Back
Oh hey Tyga, back again I see? Now this one wasn't even Tyga's fault. Chris Brown bro.
Lemme try my best with this one...I think CB was trying to be Meek Mill, Tyga, Yo Gotti, Tech N9ne, Bow Wow, Ol' Dirty Bastard, Ace Hood and Onyx all at once. Correct me if I'm wrong.
No need for him to even be on this track thuggin' as hard as he did. And the Snapback era is slowly dying, so bad timing all together.
2. Wiz Khalifa - Roll Up
Yup, it was only a matter of time before this one. Need I say anymore?
1. Future ft. Drake - Tony Montana
Lets get one thing straight motherfuckers. Just because Drake is on somebody's song does NOT make it any better. In fact, it makes the more popular artist look weaker. Hence this song.
"Tony Montana" is definitely the worst song this year and your disagreement doesn't matter to me because you're not writing for RTF. There is no entire way that Future is "up next" with this kind of shit. This nigga sounds like he's rapping with the wind knocked out of his chest. The amount of pitch changes in his verse had me thinking that this song was dubbed from a tape deck. Fuck you if you like this song, you're the reason why bad hip hop is continuously being supported.
That'll do it for me folks. I hope I didn't piss too many of you off, but if I did, I pretty much don't care.
