On Monday, Kendrick Lamar came to the D for his first time and put on a show for the people at The Shelter in Downtown Detroit. With his TDE teammate Schoolboy Q tagging along, they definitely did their thing and showed some of the 313 people why he was chosen for the XXL Freshmen 2011 class. After the show, me and RTF manager PK got to catch up with Kendrick and we chopped it up on a few things.
I asked him about his XXL Freshmen experience and what it meant to him, how he feels about being one of the lead candidates out of the West Coast comeback, the delay on his project with J. Cole and more. I also told him to compare his style to any old school West Coaster from the days when they were on top and he said Tupac is one he can compare his approach with. At the end, he revealed to us that he has a project that he's been working on and we might see it before the summer kicks off. He calls it 'some of his best work yet'.
