Here's a quick recap on some of the highlights of the 2010 BET Awards from Jenay...feel free to leave your thoughts!
El Debarge came out singing exactly just how he once sang back in
the day. I know every mother in America was going crazy, because my mom was
screaming like Trey Songz took her shirt off or something.
This year’s BET Awards was one of the best awards shows they
have had in a long time. The performances were thought out and it looked like there
were no problems behind the scenes. There were many surprises like the comeback
of El Debarge and a beautiful and moving tribute to MJ by Chris Brown.
Kanye West’s performance of his single ‘Power’ was a great start to a good night. Even though Queen Latifah was trying to be funny and wasn’t getting the response she was looking for, she still didn’t get out of hand. As far as the performances of the night, Usher, Drake, Diddy, Alicia Keys and Eminem all did their thing. Alicia Keys did her performance with a baby bump and sang her heart out on a piano for her tribute to Prince!

B.O.B. and Keyshia Cole performed ‘Airplanes’…we all are
aware that the original features Haley from Paramore singing the hook. To me,
Keyshia should have left that to Hale, but hey…it was an ok try.
Seeing John Legend gets presented with the Humanitarian Award and the Life Time Achievement Award to Prince was very well overdue. I somewhat don’t feel the performance did Prince any justice, but I loved how hype Janelle Monae and Alicia Keys got, and definitely gotta give props to Esperanza Spalding; her voice sounded great. At the end of the tribute you had, Patti Labelle kicking off her shoes and out of breath and after all that I still felt the song was put to justice.

The most moving part of the night was Chris Browns tribute
to the late, great Michael Jackson where he danced his ass off back into the
heart of many people. His heart felt performance had him struggling finishing
the song ‘Man in the Mirror’ and you could tell he lost his hero -- the one he
looked up to.

I can’t forget the tribute to Teddy Pendergrass by Tyrese;
he did his thing as he sang tunes from the late Teddy Pendergrass. The show was
closed out with multiple artists like Ludacris and DJ Khaled with T-pain right
behind.
The show went smoothly, but there were a few obvious fails. Especially during Diddy’s performance with Dirty Money when there was a big cloud of smoke in the middle of the stage blocking Diddy and Nicki when they performed. Other than that the show was better than decent and was worth the watch. If you missed it you can always catch it on the re-run…
