Rapper Rick Ross (we'll call him William for less confusion) could be possibly facing a lawsuit over his stage name, Rick Ross. The original drug-lord Ricky Ross is asking for the Miami rapper to drop the name off of his alias.
Everybody knows the original Rick Ross for his extensive cocaine empire that he ran in Miami back in the 80's. Ross was sentenced to life in prison for attempting to purchase 100 keys of coke but after a numerous amount of appeals, he got his sentence term shortened.
The real Rick Ross feels as though that William is exploiting his name while he is locked up and can't do much about it. He says that he is ruining the image and likeness without his consent...even after signing a huge music deal in 2006 that flooded William wit millions of bucks.
Ross was released in '09 and that's when he started the fight to get his name back. He claims that he sent cease-and-desist letters to Def Jam but they just ignored them so his next step is to sue the Def Jam label, William and a few others in the circle.
It's been cool for William so far; you can dodge letters, but not subpoenas.
